كان هذا الكتاب واحدًا في قائمة تلميذتي المتوسطة "مختارات القراء الشباب". لقد كانت قصة قراءة سريعة في شكل شعر. المعلوماتية ، آسر ، مفجع.
The novel started out nice, but mid-way got a little predictable. The characters seemed quite boring at times. Some of the important characters seemed unreliastic, which included President Morgan, Teddy Maynard and Critz. Even Backman/Marco seemed almost superhuman at times, in the way he adapted to his new environment and situation. I had a problem with the ending as well. The last few chapters promised a lot and delivered very little. Particularly unbelievable was Marco's use of Giovanni's passport without anyone suspecting anything, both in Europe and US. On the upside, some of the descriptions of Bologna and its landmarks are quite good, although I cannot vouch for their accuracy since I have not been there. On the whole, I would say this is a readable novel if you have nothing better to read or are stuck on an airplane/train, but I wouldn't spend half the night trying to finish this novel. The only other John Grisham novel I read was 'The King of Torts', which was much better in terms of its characters, subject as well as the development of the story.
