أحببت هذا الكتاب حقًا رغم أنني لم أتوقعه أيضًا. لقد وجدت أنه نهج أكثر واقعية لحياة القراصنة. لا تفهموني خطأ ، فأنا أحب مغامرتي "جوني ديب-إيسك" ، لكن النهج التاريخي كان منعشًا. ومع ذلك ، فقد أعطيته 3 نجوم فقط لأنني أتفق مع بعض المراجعات الأخرى ، أنه لم ينته بالطريقة أو الجودة التي شعرت أن مايكل كريتشون كان يريدها. أظن أنني أفهم أنه كان من الصعب توقع نواياه في القصة ، لكن إما أن تفعل ذلك بشكل مثالي أو تترك وحدها على ما يكفي ...

Everyone has a book that they consider changed their life or had a great impact on them. This is mine. I read this back in university, whilst dealing with my own sexuality. I just remember devouring this book in a matter of days, consumed by the fact that the gay characters in this book were just like me. Colored, young and urban. They even listened to the same music as I did! Great for the mere fact that it shows another side to gay life, one other than mainstream and white.

I loved this book so much when I was required to read it for a college course that I've re-read it since then. The subject of nuclear deterrence is so satisfyingly logical. It's not a page-turner and it is fairly academic, but it is a fascinating read.

This is a really wonderful book on many levels. A fabulous history lesson and a beautiful, funny, and powerful story.
