This was a book that really changed my life. It was also one of the last things my grandmother ever got me. I remember she expressed confusion over the fact that I was really getting into books of letters. I too am now confused since correspondence now strikes me as generally dull to read. However, I think it's easier to understand when seen in the light that I basically fancied myself IN LOVE with Lord Byron and really wanted to read everything he ever wrote, including the letters which I now find hard to reread because they contain so many dashes. Lord Byron's letters are funny and insightful and a lot better than his poems. I especially like the humor in them which he managed to retain despite having a really eventful, emotional life. He actually comes across as a lot less depressed than his public persona would have him be. They burned Lord Byron's memoirs when he died. This really saddens me. Good stuff.
