Dark and solemn tones reign supreme in this aptly named novella. In this story we encounter a broken family, reunited, but under less-than-happy circumstances. The matriarch of the estate is met with an unexpected visit sixteen years in the making from her runaway daughter with a dark past, Olivia, as well as her young granddaughter and grandson (both of whom she has not previously met.) Soon after they are met with Marcus, who is Olivia's brother and husband of Sophie, a young woman who after years of attempted conception has just given birth to a stillborn baby girl. This book is a quick, totally immersing adventure into some very troubling times... as if the events that follow could be anything but disquieting.
