A beautiful and intelligent book - it was recommended to me by a friend the summer of 2001. I didn't know what to expect - but was pleasantly surprised with this wonderful story of a young boy in South Africa. We all know about growing pains - but growing up puny,fatherless and English in South Africa is really tough! It is a boxing story yes - but it is also about friendship, bringing up the little guy, the kindness of strangers and apartheid. I loved all the kind and quirky characters that helped this little boy grow up - and I loved the sidebar characters - Dee and Dum! A must read for lovers of intelligent and meaningful fiction.
