Very fast and entertaining read---sometimes I need a break from non-fiction. The characters are appealing, do interesting things, have great comebacks, interesting points of view. Nice mix of idealism and cynicism--which I think is a hallmark of Lehane's writing. I wish I understood what the title means---maybe it's a Boston thing.

I absolutely love the way Bazin writes - he represents for me a possible model. Theory, I think, requires the sort of admiration and curiosity (rather than cold scientific inquiry) evident throughout these books. Whether or not I agree with his tastes, this and the second volume beg further exploration.
