If there is a romance cliche that isn't hit in the first chapters, I haven't heard about it. I assume this was intentional (violet eyes?) and intended to be funny, but for me it didn't quite get there. So I was left with a competent, mildly amusing story that was neither laugh-out-loud not really engaging. There were some funny moments. (The gift of vegetables - great line in the thank-you note!) but not enough for me to raise it out of the middle ranks.
