I started out liking this but then it kind of annoyed me. Maybe it's the parents' relationship with the kid or the obligatory young-adult novel lessons about how kids should just learn to accept their situation in life. Maybe it was the overblown way everybody joined in with the cause at the end. Or the stereotypical way working-class people were portrayed ("Quito, Ecuador, wherever _that_ was"). Yeah, some things about it annoyed me. Have to give it points though for capturing authority's treatment of adolescents pretty well--everyone expects them to follow rules without considering that they have their own moral guidelines by that age.
