This book was my least favorite of the first three books of the Vampire Chronicles. The format was definitely different, and although there was a very nice undercurrent, I think she would have been better off making that story the theme of the book instead of the book's true main plot. It was still a good book, but I found myself sometimes hoping to be done with certain sections. Still a good book and worth the read.
