I read this one on a trip to Australia, and generally enjoyed it. Bryson is a good writer, and his sense of humor reminds me of a much less obnoxious version of Dave Barry (which is a good thing). However, his tendency to embellish gets tiring pretty quickly -- in his book about England, for example, he pretends to remember meals, prices, and innkeepers from a trip 20 years earlier. In this one, he draws an angry look from a small dog in a park into a whole chapter of canine savagery in the wild. Australia is an odd enough country to provide plenty of material for a funny book without this kind of filler. However, Bryson's book is an easy read, particularly if you prefer entertaining rather than factual travel lit.
