If you haven't read First Grave on the Right, go and do it right now. There we met Charley Davidson, who with her breasts, Danger & Will Robinson (yay, that shout-out to one of the loves of my youth, Lost in Space, won my undying fidelity from here on out!), her best friend and office girl Friday, Cookie, her dead roommate Mr. Wong, her detective Uncle, and assorted dead people we met along the way charmed us into believing this Grim Reaper with a shiny aspect was a portal to the other side. In this book we find Reyes, her shadowy beau from way back (and I mean waaaaaaaay back, like the dawn of his creation which means shortly after the dawn of, well, all creation)hell-bent (snicker)on ditching his corporeal body because it's too much of a lure to the demons trying to get from hell to heaven on the head of a pin...no, that's something else...who will go through him to get through her which will inevitably lead to all hell breaking loose - literally. Oh, and there is a mystery to be solved, too. Cookie's old friend, Mimi, has disappeared. A little investigation proves that something BAD happened in high school and several of her HS friends are dying mysteriously to keep just how bad a secret. But, really, the mystery as entertaining as it is (and the intro of the mysterious and appreciative Mr. Smith (note to self: buy some Juicy boxers)and his 2 cohorts as well as Evil Murtaugh & Evil Riggs makes it very entertaining)pales to the continuing romance of Charley and Reyes. Just to be clear on his dark luciousness, he is third only to Nalini Singh's Archangel Raphael and J. R. Ward's Brotherhood dudes (I won't single one out...oh, alright Z is my fave, but if you let the other Brothers know that, they'll tease him to no end about getting the big head which that quiet tormented soul would never do). How he feels and has always felt about Charley is not the least of his attractions. Once again, we are left hanging so book 3 better be here soon. Geat storytelling.
