I have never cried so hard at the end of a book, and I'm not one who typically cries when reading. I cried so hard I scared my husband. I'm not saying this as a good thing or as a recommendation. Each person brings to a book his or her own experience, and I identified way too much with the younger sister. So I was furious at the end. But I can't give the book a lower rating because the story and the writing were so engaging, and any book that could affect me that deeply has to be pretty good. I liked hearing the story from different perspectives, though at times it was a little gimmicky, especially after having recently read two Wilkie Collins novels. In any case, I'm wary now of all her other books.
