Nicolas Zubia Zubia من عند Proseniško, سلوفينيا
It was a good book. I'm glad I read it and I plan to read the sequel, when I get around to it. But there were some things about this book that meant I could not, in good conscious, give it a four or a five. I like Nick as a character, but he can be angsty. I wish this novel had been less focused on his emotions, which became repetitive quickly, and more focused on the plot, which was interesting and had a good twist at the end. Alan, Mae, and Jamie are distinctive characters, but they can be flat. The writing needs to be cleaned up. There's a lot of unnecessary and repetitive description and some grammatical errors. Some of the description is just downright bad. This strange narrative style is really what kept this book from being a four. As a reader, I was just too distracted by the writing to be as engaged as I could have been with the plot and the characters. I'm hoping the prose will be cleaner in the following books. I would recommend this book, but I wouldn't give it a ringing endorsement.
