I first read this book in high school, some 7 & 1/2 years ago or so. Or more acurately, I read the first 2/3rds of the book and the second-to-last chapter in high school. I always said this was my favorite book I never actually read. But, that's all changed, because now (nearly 8 years later!) I have *finally* finished the book! And it was all worth it. I didn't give it 5 stars because it went around in too many circles (adding to the recurring theme of deja vu, which I realize is the whole point of writing in that style). However, I read it on the train/at work/at random moments of time rather than reading it relatively consistently (took me about 2 months to finish it, give or take). So for me, it was a bit confusing keeping all the characters straight with so many gaps of time in between. However, I'm glad I stuck with it, because the book itself is hysterical, the writing style makes you go "huh?!?", and the storyline does a good job of making you take the subject of war lightly while simultaneously reminding you that it's a very serious matter. If all that makes no sense whatsoever, just read the book and you'll get it. ;-)
This was a great historical fiction book written in modern language. Truely enjoyable.
