Pretty fantastic what they have done, which is to find hidden phrases that can be interepreted and translated into modern day prophecy. This was all fine and dandy until someone did the same thing with Moby Dick. If the text is big enough, phrases WILL be found, any phrase you want. So, while the first one was cool and new, it was eventually debunked.

Compelling story of three generations of a Greek immigrant family who came to Detroit. Cal, the narrator is a hermaphrodite who attributes his condition to the fact that his grandparents were brother and sister. I was very interested in the story but emotionally detached from the grandparents. However, by the last 1/3 of the book, which focuses on Cal's story, I became very concerned with his suffering and that of his folks when, at age 14 the truth was discovered. The story also has some history such as the founding of the Nation of Islam and the 1960's race riots. A really good novel, but most people would find the length daunting and some of the graphic subject matter distasteful. I, however, really enjoyed it! Pulitzer Prize winner.
