I had a harder time with this novel--probably because of the subject matter of capital punishment...the ending had some surprises, and I really liked one of the characters--the lawyer, Meg. She was smart and sassy!

This is one that I will read again and again. If only this was required reading in our high schools! As it says "the secrets to his leadership success are as relevant today as they were more than a century ago." But sadly, "our hopes for producing men like America's Virginia-born Founding Fathers are about as distant as our hopes of hearing news of rising SAT scores, the growing unpopularity of televisions, and the demise of rock music." Along with the valuable, timeless lessons in character this could be an eyeopener for someone to read for the reasons why Lee chose to fight on the Confederate side as well as the causes that provoked states to secede. It is not exactly what we're taught in school but then not only to the winner go the spoils but also a more one-sided version of the facts.
