I struggled in determining whether I liked this book or not. As a work of fiction, I was not overly impressed. As a historical reflection on the life of an American American woman in America, it is more powerful. The dialect was well captured but was somewhat hard to understand (especially at the beginning of this audiobook version when the reader/listener is trying to get accustomed to the dialect, accent and story). I enjoyed it, but I didn't connect to the story or characters.
