Honest, funny, unflinching look at author's big youthful mistake...smuggling drugs into the country in a terribly inept and funny way. But what happened in prison afterwards wasn't funny at all. Like a non-preachy "Scared Straight" of YA books. It gets my vote for not demonizing or underplaying his drug use or violence. I think I particularly connected with it because as a teenager I also didn't have the financial support of my family and sometimes made morally questionable choices to keep afloat that I'm not exactly proud of all these many years later. Not drug smuggling or anything - but who knows, if it had been offered as the way to go to college debt free? Author of the "Joey Pigza" books, which is interesting.
