Once again I was swept into the turbulent world of the middle ages, where Sharon Kay Penman weaves history and fiction into compelling narrative. Students of history may know how the story will end, but to have the dialog laid in, a stray character or two invented to bridge the cultures (Welsh and English)... and her priceless Author's notes that I always save for dessert when I finish one of her novels. The first of her works that I read I stayed up all night turning pages. I have learned to pace myself and savor it... but they are SO hard to put down!
