From the very first sentence, you know you're into it--"It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains." Brilliant. This is exactly what it says it is: a retelling of Pride and Prejudice with zombies added. (The cover bills it as Ultraviolent Zombie Mayhem, and that's not quite accurate--it is by far the most sedate zombie violence I've ever read about, but that's all right. For the sake of the joy it brought me, I'll let that go.) The Bennett sisters are now re-cast as zombie-fighting warriors trained in Shaolin and capable of taking down hordes of the undead. Their essential characters are unchanged, but now they have super fighting skills! They can take ninjas while blindfolded! Not to mention many "unmentionables." Mr. Darcy is similarly skilled, Charlotte is forced to suffer the strange plague in addition to the attentions of Mr. Collins (poor thing, it just gets worse for her!), and there's a lot of vomiting. Outside of that, it's Pride & Prejudice with way better illustrations. Don't listen to those book snobs who say that "it offers nothing new"--it offers Elizabeth Bennett eating beating hearts! If that's not new, I got nothing.
