A friend of mine said he had frustrations with this book because he found Reichl too self-congratualatory. "Ooh, look at me, I turned restaurant reviewing on its head! And I wore lots of funny, elaborate disguises!" Okay, fair enough. But the woman has an incredibly well-developed palate, which makes reading her descriptions of food a joy.
