I read this in high school. My 5 stars are because of the effect it had on me then - I wrote college essays on some of the ideas. I should go back and read it again. Butler's characters are always memorable.

quick and enjoyable. always love a good yarn about space. however, i'm now stuck on which interpretation of marvin to go w/. my image from the book, the depiction in the film, or perhaps as he appears in some early 80's fan music.

I can't think of a novel that I have abandoned with a worse impression of the author. Cannetti was reportedly a royal prick, a backstabbing, misogynistic troll, and nothing in the first pages this book does anything to dispel any of it. Maybe I'll get around to it, but I doubt it - it's too unpleasant.
