Yu Chin Tien Chin Tien من عند Bhokarpada, Maharashtra, الهند
This book has a lot of potential, but most of the "major points" and "big picture" themes and messages Powell is trying to convey throughout the memoir get hidden under Powell's whining. I had trouble getting into the book because of it, and even found myself wondering why in the world someone would want to make movie out of it. I saw the movie first, finding myself drawn more to Julia Child's story rather than Julie Powell's mid-life crisis. That should have been the tip-off right there. While the anecdotes Powell tells are kind of interesting, the sequence of events can be confusing as she drifts in and out of the current time frame and another little story from the past. The language also leaves much to be desired. Overall, I think there are better memoirs concerning someone's mid-life crisis or life changing event. Not something I would recommend to others, especially if they adore Julia Child.
