As brilliant as the first book. I love Charley and the cast of characters that surround her.

This book has been getting a lot of hype, so I finally put it on hold at the library, and after a couple months here it is. It was one of those "train wreck" books--the characters are not especially appealing, they make bad choices, they gross you out, but you just can't look away. The Fang parents are into disruptive performance art in a big way and they coerce their two children (whom they call Child A and Child B) into going along with them. I must admit that the chapter about entering the boy Buster into the Little Miss beauty contest is pretty hilarious, but probably only because I think subjecting little girls to such travesties is cruel and inhuman punishment for the child. Anyway, the two kids grow up enough to move away from home, but come back under unfortunate circumstances, which can only get worse. The good thing is that it doesn't take a big chunk out of your life to read.

I like Ambler very much, but this is by far his weakest of those I've read so far.
