The book is the "history" of Middle Earth, starting with the creation story. Though the book is hard to get through, there are at least three things that i found particularly wonderful: 1) To create the world, the one God has created other beings which sing the world into existence. Their song creates all the things of the world. And even the being who sings with a dissonant song, only adds richness to the world no matter how hard he tries to screw up the song. 2) Death is seen as God's gift to man. Without it, man grows weary of the world, like the elves. 3) The love story between Beren and Luthien. It is a beautiful story. There are many rich and wonderful things in this book if you have the patience to sit down with it.
