白旗の少女 is a true story of a seven year old girl who wanders through Okinawa Japan for seven weeks during WWII. I read this book when I was about 9 or so..and it really scared me. Higa tells in full detail how she survived the hellish battle of Okinawa. What she describes is enough to make your stomach turn. Nevertheless, this book is amazing and shows the true impact of war.
