Edith Pargeter also writes under the name of Ellis Peters. This was a historical fiction based in medieval times about a nobleman's son named Harry. He was not the first son and was raised with compassion for the common man, having common woman as his nursemaid. His sympathies got him and Adam, the nursemaid's son in trouble and he chose to run away from home with Adam to protect him from punishment. He made his own way in the world as a stone carver. He realized his life's dream to build a church, but the circumstances of the experience cost him his life. The writing was too wordy for my taste. Also, I thought the characters and circumstances were hard to swallow. I wouldn't recommend it, but it would be a good throw away book for travel.
