i actually read this during my spring "vacation", as adaptation had just come out, and i loved the movie. grace gave me the book as a present. it's surprisingly dry - and yet there are parts that are so lucid and her insertion of herself is fascinating. it's not like anything else you will ever read, and i don't know if it really qualifies as a crazypeoplememoir, but it's crazy. i think it also helps to watch the movie, and then read the book through the eyes of someone trying to adapt this crazy book about orchids. the movie makes more sense (and you realize kaufman's genius) and the book somehow makes more sense too.
