This is really a very good children's book, which deals in adult themes such as totalitarianism, propaganda, liberty, and ethics. It takes place an a future America where there is a strict rule of only two children. Luke is the third child of poor farmers, and they rigorously keep him hidden. When a new housing complex goes up near their farm, the rules become more stringent, to the point where to the point where he can't eat meals with the family, or go outside. He begins spying on the neighbors through two tiny air vents in his attic bedroom, and discoveries an upper class third child with revolutionary ideas.

This is part one of two. It had a slightly different style than the first two books in the series. It only took me a few pages to get into it. I enjoyed it very much and am anxious to start part two.
