4.0 - So...I have mixed thoughts on this book. First of all, it's looong. Like 836 pages long. But, that has never scared me before. I like long books ("Name of the Wind", "The Lies of Locke Lamora" even Harry Potter is not short). But, for some reason (as you can see) this book took me a really long time to read. Usually I just buckle down and get the job done, mostly because I am so caught up in the story. But, it wasn't that I wasn't caught up in this story. It was a good story. Sufficient plot twists, and all that. I actually think that possibly what, oddly, held me up, was the grammar. The sentence structure was annoyingly simplistic at times. I don't understand why. The author obviously has a grasp on language. Was this book written for children? Please no. There were scenes of child molestation and chapters of torture. There was nudity and almost-sex. Please tell me this book was not written for children. And yet, the wording made it feel like it was...like Dick and Jane. I am not sure there were any conjunctions in the entire book (I hope I'm exaggerating) and there were hardly any contractions. It just felt weird, off. Anyway (see, I am a conjunction addict), I still enjoyed the book. I mean, it was a good story. I just wish it hadn't felt like I slogged through it. Try it, anyway. You may think differently. Happy Reading!
