Sometimes I felt like the writing was much too intended for the young adolescent (like myself), but the story proved so enveloping I couldn't put it down. Had I ever read Harry Potter, I would say Wicked has the same effect of addictive entertainment. The characterization of Elphaba is so enthralling and the narrator delves into all the simplicities of the original Wizard of Oz story and exposes them as heartbreaking remnants of predating intricate subplots involving only the most corrupt of human delights.
