This should have won a Caldecott! Kadir Nelson has done it again with stunning illustrations to accompany the words of Abraham Lincoln. My favorite pictures are of slaves picking cotton in a field (you can almost feel the scorching hot sun), Abe working in a field with a stunning sky full of small clouds reflecting the orange sunset, and the Capitol building on Abe's second inauguration day, with lowering gray sky and one shaft of light illuminating the area where Abe is speaking. Breathtaking. I must start collecting Kadir Nelson's books! Eye candy!!
