A wonderfully engaging book with well developed characters. This author does a fantastic job portraying the complex relationships between people and evokes true emotion from the reader.
I forgot this book when I said all the other Graham Greene ones except The End of the Affair were too masculine for me. I read this so long ago but remembering Pinky, the "villain," still makes me shudder. I put "villain" in quotes because you look at him and see yourself in him and it's freaky. I know that's what all good fiction does, but oh man. Not the way this book does. It's one of the most lucid portrayals of "evil" I've ever read.
