I love Lisa Kleypas contemporary works. This story line could have come across as bland and superficial or overdone and heavy, but it was light and sweet - and that takes a delicate hand. Excerpt: "Maggie... I didn't mean to scare you last night." Her heart began to pump hard and fast. "I wasn't scared. I have no idea why it happened. It must have been the wine." "We didn't have wine. Sam had wine." Heat shot to the surface of her skin. "Well, the point is, we got carried away. Probably because of the moonlight." "It was dark." "And it was late. Around midnight-" "It was ten o'clock." "-and you were feeling grateful because I'd helped with Holly, and-" "I wasn't grateful. No, I was grateful, but that isn't why I kissed you."

Memoir about life in Rhodesia at the beginning of the civil war for a white boy(mukiwa) from an English family. Good portrayals of dilemmas that had to be faced daily, how some survived, some died and the beginning of the changeover of power.

I struggled to undertand why Ernest Hemingway is considered such a great american author. But I am starting to understand. It is not because his stories are amazingly interesting. Most of his characters are un-likeable at best, but they are struggling. They break down at times, but continue living. Basically they are realistic. I really enjoyed this book. Bill is my favorite character, if only we were all like Bill. This book really demonstrates the dangers of the fool game of love.
