I loved this book! It was laugh out loud funny about every other page. The best chapter is the baby book chapter (especially when her mom says her first word was magazine).
These two books-- Don't Bite the Sun and Drinking Sapphire Wine are parts 1 and 2 so I'll talk about them together. In fact, I didn't find that the first story ended at the end of the book, and just went straight onto the sequel (might have been frustrating otherwise). Together, the books are the story of a Utopic future, where death has been abolished because citizens of the cities can change bodies at will, and where adolescence is a required part of life, where the "Jang," or young people, are encouraged to pretty much do anything they want to do, try on different bodies and different sexes, etc. Of course, things are not always as they seem, and when our protagonist tries to be something other than an expected Jang, her rebellion is punished, and our utopia becomes quite a dystopic vision. Good story.
A perfect example of chick lit. I found the progression of girl/girl, girl/boy, mother/daughter friendship captivating. True, the story line may have been predictable, but I cried anyway. Big surprise.
