I remember the first time I read this book. It was in sixth grade. I had been scanning the library for books, and my eyes simply landed on this one. For the rest of the week, it was my constant companion, until I had to return it. For the rest of that year and the next, I checked it out from the school library around ten times, a record that has not been beat. When I found a copy of the book in my favorite teacher's classroom at the end of 7th grade, and commented on it to her, she gave the book to me. So, yes, this book is more than just a story to me. This story has everything every pre-teen girl wants: magic, love, adventure, and princesses. Yes, deep down, you pre-teen girls still adore the notion of princesses. The romance is one of the most beautiful ones I've ever read. On both sides. Addie and her sister are two completely different people and I loved that. Addie is so completely human. She's scared of spiders, and loves her sister almost to the point of idolization. She was an ideal main character. Rhys was perfectly imperfect. No one, in fact, was perfect. Their faults were so clear, but not flaunted. By far, I'd say this was the best of Levine's books. Honestly? I can't understand why they made Ella Enchanted a movie, and not this one.
