Well, Asimov has been criticized (by himself, among others) for the style of writing in this book. He basically sets up the conflict, then skips the part when it was resolved and shoots you through to the next section where you have to reconstruct how things played out. He may not have liked it, but I dug it. It reminded me of greek plays where the violence happens offscreen. In his later Foundation novels, Asimov writes it all out for us and it isn't nearly as good. Anyway, I'm rambling. I loved the story, I loved psychohistory, I loved how the Seldon plan became religious, and I was really, really into the idea that humans could stop the 30,000 years of barbarism. If only Asimov had finished the series and let us see the new empire formed. Damn him forever for writing those prequels!
