i picked this up randomly while christmas shopping at b&n. i was bored with my reading for school, and started it on the train. i simply couldn't put it down. it helps that i love anything related to new york, and i love non-fiction stories that turn my liberal heart. but this, this was eye-opening. what is remarkable is that there is never judgment on the decisions of the characters. often i found myself wanting to yell, "nooo, jessica! go home!" or shout at coco or cesar - which i think is the mark of excellent writing. what makes it all the more tragic is that these people are real, they are the people living so close to me, they are people so many dismiss with a stereotype. excellent journalism, excellent non-fiction, truly engaging and true to the subject matter. would recommend to anyone, anywhere.

I love Neruda's poetry. Sensual, earthy, ethereal.

Great characters and well-worth the effort to read through the accents.
