As usual, Philippa Gregory does not disappoint in her thorough research for her novels. I was not as familiar with this time period as I am with the Tudor era, so I learned much. I started to dislike Queen Elizabeth (King Richard's wife) so much that it clouded my enjoyment of the novel. Nothing against the author, fictionalizing a bit of history can't turn every person likable. Not sure if I'd jump in to book two any time soon.

Steampunk and faeries and corsets, oh my! This was such a fun romantic fantasy filled with swashbuckling adventure set amidst a unique and intriguing world. I can't wait to read what happens in the next book.
