I loved it when I first read it. Dan Brown is great at thrillers. Once you start, you definitely have to finish. But I don't like how an obscure theory supported by very tenuous evidence is treated as fact. So my 2 stars are more for the annoying furor that the book caused, and not so much for the book itself. It really was a fun read! It just could have used a disclamatory foreword / afterword, in my opinion.
I was so thrilled to see that Elizabeth Peters filled in some gaps in the Emersons' story. It was like a typical reunion of sorts for them to return to the place where they found Nefret and discover what had happened in the intervening years. I loved going back to a time when Ramses, Nefret and David were younger and it was great seeing Emerson and Peabody at their best with Selim and Daoud in tow. The story has its usual twists and turns, delightful dialogue and wonderful character sketches against the superbly painted backdrop of archeologists living in the early years of the twentieth century. I love this series and found this another awesome installment in the story. Wholeheartedly, I recommend this series to those who love blending archeology, mystery and a touch of romance. It is absolutely necessary to read these in order.
A great one.
From the very first chapter to the last it was a book i could not put down, very sad in parts, nevertheless an excellent book.
