I'll enjoy putting some of this into play, but I got a little lost as to the organization of the book, and why it went as detailed into some things as it did (ie. what five brands of candles to look into for a party).

Desde luego, en la novela española contemporánea hay muchos autores... y pocas novelas que destaquen. Esta no es una de ellas. Sí, es correcta, está bien escrita... Pero una vez leída pasas a otra cosa y no te dignas en recordarla.

I love Maugham's style and language, beautifully descriptive of persons and places, and his dialogue seems perfect to the time and place. A sad and poignant story.
