U.S. stealth technology is stolen by the Chinese and used against a US warship killing thousands of naval personnel and almost starting WWIII. The race is on to find this invisible "Goliath" before further atrocities are committed. Unfortunately there really arent' any characters that are likeable. They are all arrogant geniuses with know it all personalities. This would have been much more enjoyable if it didn't get bogged down in naval and technical speak. The storyline was actually lost to all the scientific babble (yes that is a technical term). I've read other books by this author which were much better. This was a huge disappointment.

** spoiler alert ** A beautiful and amazing memoir chronicling the frienship between writer Sy Mongomery and her pet pig Christopher Hogwood. The book details the life lessons that Christopher imparts to Sy and the changes he creates in her and her husband's lives. Beware however, the sad and heart-breaking ending when time eventually takes its toll and Chris dies. Just a lovely, lovely book and highly recommended.

a brief but rather terrifying adventure tale, wells explores, slash-and-burn-style, the wobbly distinctions between beast and animal, and the ethics of experimentation-for-experimentation's-sake. i quite generally and simplistically adore any novel about bioethics, and would precursorily make strong parallels between this and c.s. lewis' 'that hideous strength', which finishes off his space trilogy with an unexpectedly down-to-earth spectacle of corporate biotech at its most disturbing. and ... i've turned this into a review of an alltogether different novel. we'll discuss 'dr. moreau' in the environmental ethics class i'm taking next quarter, so more to come ???
