I won this book in a Goodreads contest and I'm glad I did. It's not my usual type of read -- teen, sci-fi -- and I doubt if it ever would have crossed my radar screen if I hadn't won it. I thought "Dark Life" was a very well written, thought out, solid book. I really enjoyed reading about the underwater world and how it worked, there was enough description to make the world believable but it was not bogged down in technical terms. I enjoyed meeting all the characters and learning of their individual personalities through the eyes of the main character, Ty. Ty, himself, is a teenage boy with special abilities that struggles to fit in by trying to be "normal". The book has great sci-fi aspects, conflicts, action and a little romance thrown in along with struggles on moral issues. I'm looking forward to the release of the second book, "Rip Tide".
