This is my favourite of Atwood's books, probably because in some ways it's the silliest. Joan Foster is melodramatic and hapless, but entirely loveable. Plus, there's a mystery! And a fake death! And a secret life in a foreign villa! It's kind of like reading a romance novel, only a lot more with the intentional funny.

This is a young adult book. The Watsons are afro-american family in the 60's. The family is quite unique and the writing is hilarious. I read this when I was substituting and the class was reading it and the kids were laughing aloud at some of the stuff that the oldest son does. He gets into so much trouble that they take down to Grandma Sands in Birningham Alabama in the 60's. So you have a little bit about the civil rights movement. Fun read.
