This was my second or third time trying to read this. It definitely took a while for me to get into it, considering how slow of a start it has, but it was worth it. At first when I found out what "the big deal" was, I was reminded of a novel I'd read a while ago with a somewhat similar concept ("The House of the Scorpion" by Nancy Farmer). I was expecting this would just be a less page-turning version of that, but Mr Ishiguro took that basic concept and raised it to new heights. It was surprisingly chilling, sad, and moving in parts. I'm glad to have given the book another chance. If I hadn't had to read it for class, I probably wouldn't have bothered.
