As I read this book I kept asking myself "have I already read this book and can't remember"? The answer was no but I kept asking myself the question until I realized the story was familiar but not this particular story. The story takes place on the island of Guernsey during the German occupation. The familiar story was the love story between a young english mother and a german soldier. I have read this story many times in many locations across Europe - the story of love that develops where it shouldn't with someone who is an enemy. I would have given the book 4 stars if the story wasn't so familiar to me.
